Learning English Using The Structural Approach

Learning English is one thing but using English in real-life situations related to one’s work environment is a different thing altogether.

For example, how does a non-native speaker in a non-English speaking environment gain proficiency in the English language in an effective way?

First of all, the individual should learn grammar, sentence structures, syntax, sentence-building, spelling, punctuation, comprehension, summary, etc.

Second, it is always safe and wise for the individual to adopt tried, tested and established rules concerning the English language.

In addition, grammar should be an aid to composition. In fact, the study of grammar alone in its entirety is a purely mechanical exercise.

Hence, a learner must understand and use grammar to obtain the necessary knowledge and skill to write English sentences clearly and correctly.

When students learn Traditional Grammar, they will acquire facility and proficiency in writing correct English sentences.

Accordingly, students express themselves clearly, correctly and confidently.

Furthermore, learners can add variety and freshness into their writing after they have learned the different sentence structures. As a result, the learners improve their spoken English at the same time.

In brief, learners must know WHAT TO SAY and HOW TO SAY IT.

One learns English proficiently when one possesses the necessary language “equipment” such as grammar, sentence structures and sentence-building.

Surely, it is not enough for people to be possessed with inquiring minds. They must have the power to express their convictions too.

Clearly, the purpose of reading is the understanding of what is read. https://data.oecd.org/pisa/reading-performance-pisa.htm

For the above reasons, non-native speakers must learn English using the Structural Approach.
